We had a blast hosting students from @universityofga College of Environment & Design out at the ranch last Friday!! The students are doing a semester long project about mustangs and wanted to see some up close and in person…you know our mustangs were happy to accommodate 😊 Thx so much to Professor Cameron Berglund and all the students- everyone was awesome and many new friendships were made!

WMR is first and foremost a sanctuary for mustangs

WMR is first and foremost a sanctuary for mustangs. We provide them with a place to relax, recover and rejuvenate as needed. Once they are settled we will begin working to train, tame and even home these beautiful animals. Some mustangs are ready to work the day they arrive, whereas others need much more time to settle in. We never force a mustang into work that they are not ready for, which is why we must first earn their trust by being patient, compassionate and authentic.

Each mustang on our ranch has its own history and identity. This uniqueness is part of what makes them such great companions in equine-assisted coaching. Our coaching, training and clinics vary in type and application, but the one constant is the mustangs. Mustangs are the BEST teachers. They help us uncover all the hidden obstacles that prevent us from being our best self. With each mustang having its own identity, every one of them has something valuable that they bring to the table when working alongside us humans. For some exercises, Shy Boy or Princey might be the best companion, whereas with another exercise the best partner might be one of the Okeechobee 8. The ideal match also varies by the relationship itself. We never know which mustang we will form that special connection with.

Join us on the ranch for one of our various coaching sessions, clinics or other events and start building your own profound connection with our mustangs. Greetings everyone, we are happy to share with you

Greetings everyone, we are happy to share with you all a little update about our two most recent arrivals on the ranch: Penn & Teller.

These two were brought to WMR out of a kill pen in Oklahoma. You may have seen one our posts a few weeks back asking for help raising funds to get them out and transported here to GA. Well, with ample help from MANY MANY GOOD PEOPLE, we were able to free them, and they arrived here at Wild Mustang Ranch in early August.

The bond between these two beautiful horses is unlike anything we’ve ever seen, a bond made stronger having co-endured so many unthinkable psychological and physical traumas during their young histories. Just imagine, being born into the freedom of roaming the American West and then ending up in a place where the people there would have you killed. Fortunately, the fate of Penn & Teller will be much happier than that. They are here on the ranch, where they have endless sanctuary, a place where they can re-discover their authentic nature.

We are taking great care of them, with a proper diet, plenty of water and all the time they need to recover. We are not yet able to release them into pasture, but that day is fast approaching, and when it comes you better believe it will be breathtaking. In the meantime, since they are in the covered arena, we have been able to spend some quality time with them. At first, they were rightfully afraid of our mere presence in there with them. But after just a few short weeks, you can already see their demeanor with us calming, and from time to time we catch a glimmer in their eye that very much feels like tranquility.

Penn & Teller’s journey has had lots of dark days, but the future is bright. They are very sweet together- Penn (6 years old) is the unmistakable big brother of Teller (3 years old); he is very protective, afraid of letting Teller be exposed to any kind of threat. Over time, they will each gain a little more confidence and trust, but the bond between them is never likely to weaken. We cannot wait to see them grow and flourish and we are excited to share their growth with all of you!

It’s always nice to have a few friends around when taking a stroll! This is the pasture where our Okeechobee 8 reside; hard to believe these eight Mustangs arrived on our ranch in February of this year, and at that time they were very shy and uncertain around people. Now look at them! The younger ones are especially curious and always up for an activity (or treats)

We brought these sweet burros home from the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) adoption event last weekend in Perry, GA. These five burros + the four mustangs we brought home from the event makeup our “Perry 9”. All nine are comfortable, curious, happy, eating WELL and just enjoying life on the ranch…as are we ❤️
